Sociology: Methods and Fieldwork
This course provides an overview of research methods in social science especially (focusing on) qualitative research techniques. The goal of this course is to apply sociological knowledge, analytical abilities and research skills acquired to the practical concerns of the organizations involved in the program.
The course will present specific research methods and will give to the studente to go “in the field” as ethnographer doing participant observation, interviewing the informants and collecting life histories.
“The best way to learn ethnography is by doing it” (Spradley, 1980:38)
“[…] life history ia a collaborative venture: life history is not “done to” the storyteller, but researcher and storyteller agree to produce it together.” (Ortiz, 1985:102)
