Summer

During the summer the Siena School offers a variety of courses, which are the coherent continuation of the work done during the two semesters. Some courses are offered for a four-week period, some for 3 and others for a one-week period. In this way we wish to make Siena, its treasures and the academic and artistic wealth of our school accessible also to those who cannot commit to a full semester away, or to mature students who can only get away over the summer.

For most courses you are required to arrive in Siena by your own means. Accommodation is with host families, in apartments (for the Sign and Foreign Language program) and in hotels (for Summer Writing workshop). All courses begin with a half-day orientation to the city and the school.

FOUR-WEEK PROGRAMS:

Italian and Italian culture
This course is run in June and provides the possibility for an intensive immersion in italian culture. Language class is held every day in the morning for 3 hours. Four afternoons a week students discuss a variety of topics ranging from politics to traditions, some literature and history of Italy, but also Italian cooking and the history of the famous Sienese horse-race the Palio.

During the culture component students are taken on excursions in and around Siena

Lodging is with Italian hosts to encourage students to practice their italian and also to learn more about Italian families and traditions.

Host families will provide two meals a day (breakfast and dinner).

We encourage students to think of staying on at the end of the course since the Palio is run on July 2nd, and race trials begin 3 days before the race.
