ACADEMIC POLICY

Class attendance

We consider attending class a crucial part of gaining the most from your study abroad experience. For this reason, we allow only one unexcused absence during the 15 weeks of the program. This means that you are only allowed to miss one day of classes for unexcused reasons. Reasons for an absence to be considered unexcused include absences related to personal travel (including delays, strikes, missed connections, etc.) or visits from family and friends. In addition, a student arriving more than 10 minutes late to class will not be admitted into the class. Being more than 10 minutes late on two occasions constitutes an unexcused absence. Please also consider that leaving before the end of the lesson or coming back late from a morning break is the equivalent of an unexcused absence. Each subsequent unexcused absence will incur an academic penalty of 10% off the overall grade of each class missed. A student having more than 3 unexcused absences will earn an 'F' in their course work in the classes missed, and if they accumulate such absences, will be dismissed from the program. Absences due to health related issues are considered excused; if a student needs to miss class for health reasons, the student or his or her host family must inform the school ahead of time.

Exams

Exams must be taken only on the dates established by the school. Other than severe emergencies, the school cannot change exam dates.
