Deaf Studies
A study abroad opportunity directly related to sign language and Deaf culture, this unique program provides ASL users a linguistic and cultural immersion into the transnational Deaf-World.
Since 2005, the Deaf Studies Department has ambitiously worked with Italian and American Deaf and signing communities in providing exciting opportunities for students and professionals alike. Through close collaboration with top professionals in the field, our programs allow ASL users access to transnational Deaf and signing communities through learning Italian Sign Language (LIS), and Italian Deaf Culture & History.
Programs include intensive summer research and study options and an ongoing array of workshops and service learning opportunities through our non-profit partner, the Mason Perkins Deafness Fund.
We offer three different summer programs:
Study Abroad for Deaf & Signers
Summer Professionals & Graduate Students Program
Summer Two & Three Weeks Independent Research & Service Learning Project
