Summer at
Siena School for Liberal Arts

Book Art - 3-week Program

Beginning from a short history of the book and how it evolved from clay tablets to paper, students will explore techniques of folding papers, constructing "case buildings" and designing book covers. They will work hands-on with a variety of materials both modern and traditional, including different kind of papers, clothes, leathers, vellum, silk, linen.

The student will be led through the construction of several books and, although the focus of the class is to acquire knowledge of historic book-binding, students will also be encouraged to use their immagination to create their own designs!
